As part of the Gallery Valerie Traan's booth at the 2022 edition of the Collectible art fair, Gijs Van Vaerenbergh designed two cabinets that explore different structural schemes for stacking simple metal shelves. 'Cabinet /' is a vertical cabinet (120x40x210cm) where the shelves are supported by a series of rods in random directions, creating a feeling of floating shelves, and where domestic objects form a free composition with the criss-cross lines of the cabinet. On the other hand, 'Cabinet O' is a lower horizontal cabinet (220x60x91cm) where the shelves are supported by a series of circles of different sizes and directions, creating a layered play of light and shade. Domestic objects placed in the cabinet will be partly shown and partly hidden. Both cabinets can be viewed as sculptural objects in their own right or as a canvas for displaying domestic objects.
